March 24, 2019 – As we are entering into the third week of the season of Lent we have a wonderful opportunity to participate in a great spiritual program, our parish mission. Rev. Gilbert Enderle, C. Ss. R. (Redemptorist) will be conducting it. I personally know Fr. Enderle and I know that he will offer us good spiritual food for thought. The mission will begin on the evening of Monday, March 25th at 6:30 and go through Wednesday, March 27th. Look forward to being with you.
This Lent, as in previous Lents, we have been supporting St. Vincent de Paul Pharmacy’s, Fil-A-Pill program. It is such a beautiful expression of alms giving. Let us keep giving to our brothers and sisters in their need.
Speaking of giving, if you are looking for something special to do with your time this Lent, I would encourage you to phone St. Vincent de Paul in downtown Baton Rouge and volunteer your time and talent. They are looking for help in making Easter baskets for those who are in need. Let us help Peter Cotton Tail bring joy to the face of a child.
Another beautiful expression of alms giving is to make a donation to St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, Tn. I had the privilege of visiting and touring St. Jude’s. It touches your heart to see the children, even in their pain, smiling and happy to see you and thanking you for your love and support.
Along with alms giving, we know that prayer and fasting are the other penances that the church recommends that we practice during the Lenten season. Let us continue our Lenten journey onto Easter where we will renew our Baptism vows to be good and faithful disciples and servants of Jesus.
God bless and have a good week.
